Having obtained the agreement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iranian Embassies and consulates will issue time-bound visas for foreigners intend on visiting the Islamic Republic of Iran. Foreigners overstaying their visas will be treated according to law. Those who are traveling to the Islamic Republic of Iran must have a valid Visa.

Visa Type

Comments & Requirements

Tourist Visa: Foreign individuals or tour groups traveling to Iran for tourist reasons or visiting family members will have to obtain this type of visa. Requirements:

Business and Multiple Entry Visa: Experts and businessmen can obtain a multiple entry visa to travel to Iran for special periods of time to get their commercial, trading, cultural and industrial stuff done. 
Requirements:

Entry and Transit Visa: Drivers of trucking goods for a destination in Iran or through Iran to a third country will have to obtain this type of visa. They will have to coordinate with the local Iranian consulates in advance.

- Holding a valid visa for the country of destination if the goods are destined for a third country.
Entry Visa with Work Permit: Foreigners who are bound for Iran to obtain a job will have to obtain this type of visa. The Iranian employer needs to acquire a work permit for the invitee from the related organizations. The holders of such visa can apply to get a visa for their families.

Airport Entry & Transit Visa:
  • The airport entry visa is a type of visa issued at Mehrabad Airport for 72 hours for businessmen and buyers of Iranian goods and services. 
  • Airport transit visa is a type of 48-hour visa issued for applicants traveling through Iran. 
  • Note: The aforementioned visas will be issued only at Mehrabad Airport.

- Valid ticket for the third country (For transit travelers) 
- To obtain a 72-hour entry visa the Iranian party should apply in writing with the Visa Department and acquire a visa from the Foreign Ministry office based at Mehrabad Airport.

Pilgrimage Visa: Muslim inhabitants of foreign countries will have to obtain this type of visa to pay heed to sacred places in Iran.

Transit Visa: It is a short-term visa issued to foreign travelers making their way for a third country through Iran.

- Holding a visa of the third country 
- Holding a valid ticket for the country of destination
Entry Visa for Free Trade Zone: It is a type of visa issued to foreigners at the entrance of free trade zones of Qeshm, Kish and Chabahar for two weeks but extendable for up to 6 months. Note: 
  1. Foreigners willing to travel to other parts of the country will have to hand over their request to the Foreign Ministry office based in the zone. The office will then decide whether to issue him a visa within 48 hours. 
  2. Foreigners should apply for a visa at the local Iranian consulates if the free trade zones lack an air, ground or sea entrance.

Student Visa: Having obtained the approval of an Iranian academic center, foreigners will have to apply for this type of visa to study in Iran.

- Admission or Invitation letter from a valid academic center in Iran
Press Visa: A press visa is a type of visa issued for foreign press and media for a special period of time. 
Requirements:

- CV (Resume) of the reporter, journalist, cameraman,... 
- Profile of the Media company or News Agency 
- Proposed program for the trip
- Interview with Media Section officer
Diplomatic and Service Visa: It is a type of visa issued for those holding diplomatic passports. 
Requirements:

- Offering a reference from the local Foreign Ministry 
- Note: In some cases visa processing fee could be exempted.
