Another Victory
for Iran's Cinema in the 49th Thessaloniki International Film Festival
The 49th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF) opened on
November 14 and concluded on November 23, 2008. Iranian filmmaker
Abdolreza
Kahani’s feature-length black and white film “Over There” won the
Golden Alexander award as the best foreign film. "Payman is a young man
who has only ten days left in order to return to
the US to renew his green card but he can’t exit the country because of
marital problems with his wife Leila. Leila wants her marriage portion
which is 500 gold coins. Payman has to pay the equivalent of this in
order to be able to leave the country. They are both waiting for the
golden happy days not realizing that the days they’re living are in
fact the golden happy days."
Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF) is among the famous
festivals in Greece and the biggest festival in the Balkan region. In
the 49th TIFF, more than 230 films from 55 countries were
participating. "As simple as that" directed by "Reza Mir Karimi" and
"Over there" directed by "Abdolreza Kahani", were participating in this
festival from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
